A Woman Losses over Rs.12 lakh in IT-firm Job Offer
As per the statement, the engineering woman was identified as Malla Jyothirmayi of Lakshmi Devi Peta Patrudu colony in Anakapalli. She received Rs. 15 lakh rupees in her bank account by her father through WhatsApp on September 24, 2023.
She was seeking a part-time job when she got offered by an IT firm. She was at first asked to pay Rs. 5000 as for the registration fee at the start of the hiring process. Later on, the scammer messaged her to pay additional charges to examine her bank account.
She was believed by the scammers that if she paid Rs.1 lakh as a caution fee, she would be getting 1.4 lakh within three months. The scammers known as fraudsters, sent their bank details to the victim in seeking of the amount and the victim fell into the trap and transferred the 12.84 lakh within hours.
When the fraudsters asked her again to send Rs. 4 lakh as the charges of hotel ratings, then she got suspected and had doubts about the fraudsters. She instantly contacted her brother and told him about the case. After that, his brother told her not to transfer any money and filed a complaint to the nearest police station i.e., Anakapalli.
How to be Aware of Such Scams
There are a few ways through which people can save themselves from becoming a victim of scammers.
- If you’re looking for part-time work, it’s a good idea to use trusted job search websites like LinkedIn, Naukri.com, and Indeed. But if you’re considering other ways to find jobs, make sure to carefully research the person who’s offering the job. Don’t hesitate to ask for their name, the company they work for, and other important details to confirm their legitimacy.
- You can often find out if a company really exists by doing a quick Google search. If you receive a ‘job offer’ document, make sure to read it carefully. Any grammatical errors or inconsistencies in the sentences could be a sign that it wasn’t written by a professional and might be fake.
- Be very careful when providing your personal details like your name and phone number, and only enter them on trustworthy websites.
- Lastly, never send money to a stranger’s bank account or share your bank details with anyone. Legitimate companies will never ask you to pay any money to secure a job.
